John William McDonald, age 90, of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021, at his home. He was born January 12, 1931, in Memphis, Tennessee to Malcolm Farnifold McDonald and Sarah Elizabeth Brown McDonald Annis. He graduated from Germantown High School and attended the University of Tennessee at the Knoxville and Martin campuses. He was a longtime member of Germantown United Methodist Church. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. On September 4, 1961, he married Barbara Isbell of Memphis at Germantown Methodist Church. He was the former owner of McDonald's Sporting Goods on Summer Avenue and retired as owner of Columns of Memphis. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding ATV’s with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Malcolm Farnifold McDonald, II. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Isbell McDonald; daughters, Karen Carlisle, Tricia Snead (Doug), and Melissa Koski (Loren); grandchildren, Courtney Bolton (John), Chance Carlisle (Jessica), Chase Carlisle (Elizabeth), Zane Snead, Isabell Snead, Morgan Koski, and Graham Koski; and great-grandchildren, Carlisle Bolton, Savannah Bolton, Simmons Bolton, Vivienne Bolton, Charlotte Carlisle, Amelia Gene Carlisle, Miles Carlisle, Tully Carlisle, and Hall Carlisle.
Services will be held at Germantown Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
