John Edward McDowell, 85, passed away May 15, 2012 at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. McDowell is a World War II Navy veteran, retired from Otis Elevators, and is a member of the Local 30 International Union of Elevator Contractors. John was active in the Lutheran Church and is a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Maude McDowell. Mr. McDowell is survived by his wife Mrs. Dorothy S. McDowell, three daughters Jeannie Victoria King, Sandra Kay Waterbury, and Angelice Ann Jacobson, one son John Edward McDowell Jr., 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and one sister Celeste George. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 17th at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens Poplar chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Friday, May 18th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
