John was born on September 15, 1938, in Memphis. He was the middle son of two brothers. He graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Sheila. They were happily married for 68 years until her death on May 10, 2025. John was a strong Christian, a devoted and loving husband and father and a successful business owner of The Crazy Quilt and Regional Sales Manager for D. Canale & Co. for the better part of his career. John and Sheila were faithful members of Bellevue Baptist Church.
John was a person who loved people! Whether it was his family, friends, business colleagues, golf and bowling buddies, Bible study friends, or pupils he taught each loved him. The elderly he delivered meals to with MIFA enjoyed his jokes and friendly conversation as much as the meal he delivered. John had the unique ability of making others feel comfortable and as if they were all that mattered to him. He had the gift of putting people at ease. Possibly, that was the lucky charm he possessed in his successful business career.
In his early life, John held a Tennessee State Title in Track & Field earning him a full scholarship to the University of Memphis. It is there that he completed his Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree. In his later life, he was an avid golfer, competitive bowler on his Senior bowling league, an active member of the Kiwanis Club serving as President and served on the Shelby County Board of Commissioners being appointed as an Honorary Commissioner. John was a very active volunteer in the city of Memphis.
John will always be remembered for his kind heart and one who gave tirelessly of himself to others. He was a natural leader that led by example. He had a strong and competitive work ethic, which his three daughters replicated in their own careers. He will forever be remembered by his family for being a wonderful father and spouse that honored his marriage vows to the end as he cared for his wife. His legacy will leave an imprint on our hearts forever.
Until we see you again…. Always, always with loving thoughts in remembrance of you.
