

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, John grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and spent most of his adult life in Jackson, Tennessee.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy Shelton; his daughters, Jennifer Middleton and husband Mike Middleton, and Rebecca Wilson and husband Eric Wilson; and his grandchildren, Alex Lawley, Ben Lawley, and Emogene Wilson.
John was an architect by profession, but designing, building, and creating were part of every aspect of his life. He enjoyed working with his hands and had a talent for craftsmanship that showed in everything he did.
He was an avid car enthusiast, fisherman, and horse lover. He also enjoyed leatherworking and was especially skilled at creating unique pieces from deer antlers. Whether working on a project, talking cars, or pursuing one of his many hobbies, John appreciated quality workmanship and took pride in doing things well.
More than anything, John valued his family and the life he built with them over 55 years of marriage. He will be remembered for his creativity, his craftsmanship, and the many things he made, taught, and shared with those who knew him.
