

John “Ed” Woods, 92 of Memphis passed away August 25, 2013. He was born in Keyesport, Illinois January 16, 1921, and spent his growing up years in Granite City, IL, graduating high school there. Ed served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during WWII and retired from Cooper Tire Company. He attended Germantown United Methodist Church. Ed was a people person, he loved people! Ed never met a stranger and was known for his wit, great sense of humor and his trademark chuckle. He was always there to lend a helping hand when his friends needed him, like driving them to functions or just to have some fun, and even into his 90’s he still went to visit those unable to get out and about. He was an avid golfer and loved playing cards with his golfing buddies and pool with his friends at Hobbit Glenn. Ed is survived by his wife, Hilda Woods; daughter Linda Dion (Richard); sons Russell “Russ” Woods, Craig Woods; two grandsons Don White, Jr. (Margaret) and Christian Dion and three great-grandchildren, Tripp, Eloise and Harriet White. Ed was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Woods. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 8 a.m. at Galloway Golf Course in conjunction with Josh Woods Memorial Golf Tournament. Memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project. Ed will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
