Joseph Ashendorf, 98, of Memphis, passed away peacefully at home October 12, 2014. Joe was the youngest child of seven children of William and Lottie Ashendorf born on August 22, 1916 in Stillmore, Georgia. He graduated high school in 1934. He met his loving wife, Thelma Bernstein, on a blind date; two weeks later they were engaged and then married on January 10, 1943. Their marriage would last 59 years until her death in 2001. Joe’s first job in Memphis was at Paul’s Shoes, later he would open his own store “Two Joe’s Ladies Shoes” in 1972. He was an active member of Temple Israel as well as a Mason and a Shriner. Joe was also active in the Boy Scouts and even did district work with the Chickasaw Council. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 15 at 1 p.m. at Temple Israel, 1708 Hernando Road, Memphis, TN 38106. Memorials may be made to Temple Israel or Plough Towers.
