We celebrate the life of Joseph Robert Buchanan, known to his friends and family as Bob. A lifelong and devout Catholic, Bob was a parishioner at Church of the Holy Spirit, where he was active in their 80+ ministry. Earlier in his life, he and his wife Betty were deeply involved in Sacred Heart parish, Cursillo and the Third Order of St. Dominic.
Coming of age in the Great Depression shaped Bob’s character and filled his heart with humility and gratitude. He served his country in the Army during World War II, was stationed in North Africa, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for the US Postal Service for over 40 years as a Letter Carrier.
Bob was an avid reader of non-fiction, particularly history and biographies, and passed on a love of reading and learning to his children. He kept his mind active after retirement with reading and challenging puzzles and games.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Betty Halliburton Buchanan, and his granddaughter, Angela Baneck. He leaves his children Christine Dunn (Lee), Suzanne Hinson, Jean Smith (Roger), Frank Buchanan and Cecilia Palazola (Andrew), nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
