Karen Ann Billingsley

Born on September 10, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee, Karen carried with her a deep and abiding faith throughout her life. She was a devout Christian who remained committed to her relationship with Jesus Christ and to continued study of His word and plan. That faith was not only a private devotion, but a steady presence in the way she lived and served.

Karen was an active member of Westside Baptist Church, where she found joy in worship, fellowship, and service. She valued her life group, volunteered for a variety of church functions, and took part serving in the church’s annual Christmas pageant. Her church community was an important part of her life, and she gave her time and energy with dedication.

She will be remembered as a gentle and loving person who never met a stranger. Karen was quick-witted, strong-willed, and sincerely compassionate. Those qualities shaped the way she moved through the world and the way she connected with the people around her.

Karen also had a deep love for animals and especially enjoyed riding her horse, JD, as often as she could. Riding brought her immense joy and was one of the simple pleasures she greatly valued.

Her family was an important part of her life. Surviving family includes her spouse, Daniel Billingsley of 36 years; her daughter, Megan Dvorak, married to Michael Dvorak of Plano, Texas; her sister Susan Shorter of Memphis, Tennessee; and her brother, Carl Shorter, Jr. and his wife, Ann Shorter, of Memphis, Tennessee; and nieces and nephews of Memphis, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl William Shorter, Sr. and Jo Ann Shorter.

Karen Ann Billingsley will be remembered with love and gratitude by those who knew her and by all whose lives were touched by her faith, compassion, and presence.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, September 4, from nine o’clock in the morning until services begin at ten o’clock, all in the Berclair Suite at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38122. Staff celebrant Jonathan Matthews will lead the days services.
