Kathryn Ann Clapp

Married Roger Ross Clapp September 5, 1948 (married 67 years until his death in 2015)

*They got started when Dad offered to drive her home from a tent revival where he led the music and she played piano….she was a beautiful, talented Redhead and he was a handsome, cow-milking farmboy with big muscles…and they both loved their Lord! ’The rest is history’!

Kathryn shared multiple degrees – B.A.Ed., M.Ed., M.Th., & D.Ed.- as dad could never have earned them without her constant, incredible support.

She has 3 children: Sharon Duffy, Roger Alan Clapp (deceased 1988), & Marc Clapp. All have resided in Memphis area since 1958. There are 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mom loved and perfected the art of selfless (almost imperceptible) support of her family!

Typing thesis and dissertation papers for Dad. Home-making extraordinaire! Pecan Pies & Chocolate Chips Cookies! Sharp as a tack – managed home budget flawlessly and kept books for her kids’ early businesses.

She played piano….no…. better stated….she and her piano as One, expressed her heart’s love for her Master and King! From early childhood until well into her 80’s, mom had Perfect Pitch and knew every hymn in the hymnbook by heart…words and all! She sacrificed countless hours with choirs, musicians and Church music….’never taking a dime’!

Dad was the first Pastor at Evangel Baptist Church. Even after retirement, she never left dad’s side for 47 years there. This was her ‘calling’ as much as it was his. This was where she was most content and most fulfilled. He Preached; She Played!

Mom simply Loved her husband and Loved her family and Loved her Lord! It was never ‘about her’! She gave her all to her precious Master and to her family and to her church family! Therein she found her greatest Joy! She ran her ‘race’ all the way to the finish line, and she finished well, still challenging those around her to know her Savior.

Kathryn’s memorial service will be held at Evangel Church – 262 N. Perkins – Memphis, this Saturday, November 4, at 2:00pm. Visitation is also at the church prior to the service at 12:30pm.
