Katrina Joyce Pulliam

Katrina was born in Huntington, WV to Norman E. Bias and Naomi Bias, and moved to Beckley in 1964. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1971 and went on to become an ultrasonographer and administrator at Professional Medical Ultrasonics. From the company’s founding in 1980, she played an important role in growing the practice and expanding its services across southern W.V.

Katrina retired in 2012 when she and her husband, Dr. Robert P. “Bob” Pulliam, relocated to Germantown, Tennessee, to be closer to their grandchildren. Katrina and Bob were married in 1991 and shared a life filled with family, travel, theater, and countless adventures. Bob preceded her in death in 2019, which was a significant loss.

Katrina’s greatest joy was her family. She was an active and devoted mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than playing and spending time with her grandchildren. She took them to Disney World, the theater, and many trips for ice cream, creating memories that will remain with them throughout their lives. She was especially proud of her children and their accomplishments, including their college graduations.

Katrina was known for being smart, fiercely loyal, generous to the people she loved, and a woman who loved experiencing life. Katrina and Bob traveled extensively, visiting every continent except Antarctica. Among their most memorable adventures were a trip to South Africa (Victoria Falls), a cruise around southeast Asia, and attending The Open at St Andrews in 2010. Some of her happiest travels were the many trips to Disney World with her family and friends. Katrina also had a particular love for musical theater, enjoying productions both locally and on Broadway.

After moving to Germantown, Katrina and Bob became active members of Living Hope Church, where Katrina volunteered with the church’s ministries and found a community of faith and friendship that became an important part of her life and supported her after Bob’s passing.

Katrina is survived by her son, Todd (Lisa) Garten; daughter, Amy (Kevin) Johnson; and grandchildren, Caitlyn, Hannah, Ian, and Ryley Grace; as well as Bob’s children, Dr. Samantha (Judith) Pulliam, Kimberly Pulliam, and Stephen (Elisa) Pulliam; his grandchildren, Leah, Abby, Kaitlyn, and Luke; and his great-grandson, Titus. She is also survived by her sister, Dana (Bert) Grant; her brother, Paul (Robin) Norman Bias; and her mother, Naomi Bias.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert P. “Bob” Pulliam; her father, Norman E. Bias; and her brother, Russell “Rusty” Gordon Bias.

Katrina leaves behind a family who will remember her not only for all she did for them, but for the way she made them feel loved, supported, and important.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 18 at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, WV, with visitation at 4pm and Memorial Service at 5pm, and Friday, August 21 at Collierville Funeral Home in Collierville, TN, with visitation at 4pm and Memorial Service at 5pm.
