Larry Barkley Creson III, 49, of Memphis, passed away Wednesday night in his home after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Larry gave a lifetime of service to the Memphis soccer community, working for nearly 18 years as the Executive Director for Memphis Futbol Club. In years passed, Larry played soccer for Memphis University School and then Memphis State University, where he was named Most Valuable Player. After college, Larry had a brief stint in the professional ranks for the hometown Memphis Storm. At the end of his playing career, Larry became a soccer coach for what was then called Germantown Soccer Club—the Fury. Larry was later named Director of the club and still served in that capacity when the club was given its current name, Memphis Futbol Club. In this capacity, Larry has acted as both friend and coach to thousands of Memphians during their most formative years. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment and passion, however, was his family. Larry is survived by his wife, Shellie Ruoff Creson, and his children, Beau (25), Alex (17, MUS), and Julia (15, St. Mary’s); who will never forget the kindness, love, and support he gave them with every waking breath. Larry is also survived by his mother, Charleen Creagh Creson of Nashville, his father, Larry Creson Jr. of Memphis, and sisters Mary Char Creson White of Portland, OR and Georgia Gadsby Creson of Baltimore, MD. There are also the countless other family members and friends who will carry the lessons and love Larry gave them for the rest of their lives. His family will receive visitation from friends and family on Sunday, January 19th at Memphis Funeral Home 5599 Poplar Avenue from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20th at Hope Presbyterian Church 8500 Walnut Grove Road at 11 a.m., after a brief visitation at 10 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.memphisfuneralhome.net
