Laura Mae Hendrix

Laura was born on June 5, 1925 in Water Valley, MS. Laura passed away January, 25th. She moved to Memphis in the early 40’s where she graduated from Treadwell High School and the old St. Joseph School of Nursing. Shortly after graduating, she joined the American Red Cross and worked during the polio epidemic caring for children confined to iron lungs. She subsequently worked at several hospitals in California and in private duty in Florida before moving back to Memphis. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Effie Hendrix, her brothers Otis, Asa, Moultrie, and Elbert, and her sister Mary Knight. She is survived by her niece, Mary Jane Robison who cared for her with husband Tom Robison of Germantown, her brother Max Hendrix (Jeanne) of Memphis, her niece-in-law Beverly Hurley (Al) of Nashville, and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 28, at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit(2300 Hickory Crest Dr, Memphis, TN 38119) with a funeral mass following at 11. Private burial will be at Memphis Memory Gardens.
