Dr. Lauran Waldran Dellinger, age 83, a lifelong Memphian, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025. Lauran, born March 31, 1942, lived a life marked by deep faith, meaningful service, and a passionate commitment to her community. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Memphis and devoted her career to supporting the emotional and spiritual well-being of others through her work at WellSpan Philhaven, Trezevant High School, and the Memphis City Schools, where she served as a Clinical Psychologist.
A devoted Christian, Lauran grew up at Highland Heights United Methodist Church and later became an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. There, she served in many roles, including on the Altar Guild, as a Bible Study leader, and as a member of the Boards of Youth and Christian Education. Her love of both learning and sharing her faith touched countless lives through her leadership in Community Bible Study and the Stephen Ministry.
Lauran’s dedication to service extended well beyond the church. She held leadership and membership roles in numerous professional and civic organizations, including the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Auxiliary, Memphis Symphony League, Downtown Neighborhood Association, Memphis Horticultural Society, Memphis Area Psychology Association (where she served as Secretary-Treasurer), the Daughters of the American Revolution (Zachariah Davies Chapter), and the American and Tennessee Psychological Associations. She also co-chaired alumni fundraising efforts for the University of Memphis College of Arts and Sciences and was a long-time supporter of local education through her involvement in the Memphis and Tennessee Education Associations.
Lauran was a proud member of “The Wackies” and the Treadwell Crew, two groups of lifelong friends who brought joy and laughter to her days. She loved her book club, her garden, cooking and most of all, her family — including her beloved fur-babies, Dude and Jazz.
She is survived by her loving sister, Jessica Thaete, and brother-in-law Harry; their daughters Amanda, Anna (husband Travis), and Lizzie (daughter Evie). She is also survived by her children Pam Rhue and son-in-law Shannon, and their children Ryan and Lauren; Preston Dellinger; Laura Lynd and son-in-law Mark, and their daughters Hailey, Brooke, and Taylor — all of whom were blessed by her generous heart and unwavering love.
Lauran was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae and Horace Waldran.
A Celebration of Life honoring Lauran is being held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation beginning at 11:30 AM, a time to share memories, offer support, and reflect on a life well lived.
In honor of Lauran’s legacy of faith and service, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church or charitable organization of your choice.
As we remember Lauran’s life, we take comfort in the words of Isaiah 40:31:
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.”
