Lenora Diane Smith

Lenora “Diane” Smith (63) was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on February 16, 1958, to the late Sidney Roosevelt Yager and Idabell (Arnold) Yager. She confessed to the Lord at an early age. While in Michigan she attended Holy Light Baptist Church, Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist and others. She met her Savior on February 18, 2021 while residing in Memphis, Tennessee.

Diane (as family and friends addressed her) attended school in Battle Creek, Michigan. In Battle Creek, she worked several job and established her own Cake Baking Business. Boy, could she bake some cakes!

Diane was a very loving and caring person. She was the type of person you could confide in with confidence and she would always let you know, the importance of prayer. She was FULL of the Lord and wanted the best for everyone’s soul. She was a very kind hearted person willing to help who ever needed assistance, that included total strangers. Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends. She was very active in her neighborhood groups. She was known as the “OG” of the neighborhood for the past 25 years. Diane had a beautiful voice and used it for the Lord. She sang in the choirs, groups and sang beautiful solos. She will be missed dearly.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Idabell Yager, and her husband’s Thomas Green and Leroy Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Roosevelt Yager and Marvin Louis Yager, and her sister Mary Jones of Oklahoma; and a very special sister (friend) Marjorie Nichols.

She leaves behind her husband Perry Smith of Memphis, TN; sons Dujaun Yager, Thomas Green, Tyrone Green and Mark Green; stepchildren Zannesha Bonner, Quartez Bonner, Perrisha Smith and Brandon Smith; four great grandchildren Reannan Yager, Derrius Yager, Tamela Nolen and Sage Yager. She is also survived by her two sisters Fayetta Cowans (Eddie) of Battle Creek, Michigan and Violet Kelly of Detroit, Michigan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, February 28, 2021 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. all at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122.

The family expresses their appreciation for the many visits, calls, cards, prayers and other acts of kindness during their loved ones transition.

Diane,
I can’t believe you are gone and I miss you so much already. You were the best neighbor I ever had. You were the glue that held Yale Ave together. Thank you for being faithful to sew seeds in this city.. I know they will bear fruit long after you are gone. Thank you for loving my family so well— even when we moved away. David and I love you so much, and you will be missed so much.
