Leslie Eugene Sharp

Leslie was born on November 1, 1936 in Linden, TN. He proudly served in The U.S. Navy. After serving 4 years in the military, Leslie moved to Memphis in 1957 where he married his wife, Helen, and started his career as a skilled industrial maintenance technician. In his spare time, Leslie enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden and taking daily walks around his community. Many miles were walking with his grandson, Grant. An avid reader, Leslie loved learning about historical facts and figures – he was able to retain all this information and he could answer any question posed to him about anything . He was also a huge baseball fan and spent many summers in the dugout coaching his son’s little league. The St. Louis Cardinals were Leslie’s favorite team and he was able to answer any trivia question about his favorite sport. He was also very active with the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed taking his family camping at Greers Ferry Lake.

Leslie is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Helen Lay Sharp, 1 son Steve Sharp, 1 daughter Connie Sharp Austin, 1 granddaughter Brittany Bancroft, 2 grandsons Blake Sharp (Megan) and Grant Bancroft, 5 great grandchildren Sterling Sharp, Sienna Sharp, Sawyer Sharp, Saylor Sharp, and Hudson Holder, 3 brothers Billy Sharp, Gary Sharp, and Roy Sharp, 2 sisters Elizabeth King and Sharon Echols, 2 sisters-in-law Carol Stover and Vickie Lay, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Leslie is preceded in death by his parents William Leslie Sharp and Eva Pearl Hickerson Sharp, brothers Eunice Sharp and Larry Sharp, his sister Ruth Sharp Tacker, sisters-in-law Linda Sharp, Mary Sharp, Jan Sharp, and Janie Sharp, brothers-in-law Jerry King, David Echols, Bryant Lay, and Barton Stover.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119, US, on June 13, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on June 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125, US, on June 16, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:20 pm.
