

Lila McGee Shirey, 86 of Memphis passed away on January 23, 2017 in Collierville, TN. Visitation will be held at Memphis Memorial Funeral Home on January 26, from 5pm til 8pm. Funeral Service will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on January 27, at 9:30am with Reverend David Stiffler of Arkansas officiating. Burial will follow at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery to join her late husband. Memphis Memorial Funeral Home are handling the funeral arrangements.
Lila McGee Shirey was born in Memphis to Andrew and Velma McGee on April 10, 1930. She went to high school at Southside and graduated in 1948. At 19 Lila was introduced by her mother to a young admirer of her’s while at a Moose Lodge dance in downtown Memphis, a 21 year old Leroy Shirey. They would soon marry and spent 57 years of marriage devoted to each other. Lila had her first of two children in October of 1950, son Martin Will of Edmond, Ok. She spent several years supporting her husband in the development of the Shirey family business, Parkway Village Television Center of Parkway Village, Tennessee. In 1967 Lila joined a church that would eventually change her life, The Worldwide Church Of GOD pastored by Herbert W. Armstrong. The church strengthened her faith in GOD and became very influential in Lila’s life. Soon after joining the church she was blessed with her second son, Samuel Lee 18 years after her first child. In fact Samuel was delivered on the Sabbath 21st day of September 1968. Lila was most proud in life of her faith in the Lord, as well as, watching her children grow and develop into men. Lila spent her career in the medical field as a doctor’s assistant and managing medical information for Health First, UpJohn and Trinity. Lila enjoyed movies, traveling, studying scripture, church fellowship and spending time with her family. Lila is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Velma McGee, sister Ruth Mitchell and her late husband of 57 years Roy Shirey. Lila is survived by her sister June Medvec of Memphis, brother Bill McGee of Bartlett, son Martin Shirey of Edmond Ok, son Samuel Shirey of Nesbit, MS and three grandchildren, Madelyn, Nathaniel and Christopher. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House and the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House of Collierville Tennessee for their support in her final days.
