Mrs. Blanche Lorene Rhodes died on August 9, 2018 after several years of declining health. She was born on September 9, 1928 to Jesse Odum and Blanche Shambly Odum in Coldwater, Mississippi and grew up on a dairy farm. After graduating from Independence High School in 1946, she moved to Memphis to attend Memphis School of Commerce, where she met her husband, Bill. They had one daughter, Donna. Mrs. Rhodes was a homemaker while raising her family and enjoyed sewing, cooking, caring for her flowers and volunteering with the PTA. She was a member of Macon Road Presbyterian Church for many years and enjoyed serving in women's ministries. Later in her life, she returned to work with Hohenberg Cotton Co. (Cargill) where she worked until retirement.
She moved to Charlotte, NC after her husband, Bill, died to be near her daughter and family. She was a member of Christ Covenant Church (PCA) where she attended with them each week until her health declined.
She leaves behind her daughter Donna Sutton (Jim), granddaughter, Amy Mayor (Josh) and two great grandsons, William and Walker Mayor. Also, her grandson, James Sutton (Katie), and great grandchildren Josie, James, John, Peter, and Marian Sutton.
Mrs. Rhodes favorite Bible verse was, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rhodes will be on Thursday, August 16th at 2pm at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Brookdale Carriage Club of Charlotte for their loving care of Mrs. Rhodes these past years as well as Hospice during recent months.
