Lou Ann Bennett, age 76 of Memphis passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014. She was born February 14, 1938 in Quitman, Georgia to the late Howell Smith and Edna Tate Smith. Mrs. Bennett taught nursing for 25 years. She was tremendous at crocheting, and made hats for the homeless. She also loved reading, was very selfless and always gave her time to others. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Fleetwood. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Donald M. Bennett; 2 daughters, Elisa and Jennifer Bennett; her granddaughter, Nataly Bennett. A memorial service will be 11 AM Saturday, March 8 at Union Avenue Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 AM till service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Avenue Baptist Church, or the cancer charity of their choice.
