Life is precious and too, too short. When a life passes, we reflect on how a person affected our lives and the love we had for them during their short life. With this said, the passing of our loved one, Lynn Rowan Ferrier, causes us to think back about the fun we had, the challenges and how we grew up together and grew old together. Lynn left this earth on Dec. 5th, 2020, in Memphis, TN. Lynn was born June 25th, 1950, to Betty Jo McNeill Rowan and Robert James Rowan, Sr. With her siblings, Lynn grew up in the Sherwood Forest area of Memphis, attended Sherwood Elementary and Junior High Schools and graduated from Messick High School in 1968. Lynn was always a great student and decided to study nursing at Methodist School of Nursing in 1970. After graduation, she started a long career of caring for sick children at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. She worked 25 years in the ICU for the sickest and critically ill of children. Not an easy job. We can think of many holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas that we would visit her in the ICU to take her the holiday meal that she would otherwise miss. Upon looking around at the condition of those kids, we would say, “How do you hold it together and do this?” Her answer: “When we send the sickest ones home healthy, that is our reward.” And she would smile. That is a side of Lynn we all need to remember and never forget. Life was not easy but Lynn always had a caring and compassionate heart. In her later years she transferred to Methodist LeBonheur surgery center in recovery. Lynn was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church and participated in small group and women’s Bible study. In her early years she enjoyed swimming, piano and listening to classical music. She was an avid reader and loved to knit, making many newborn caps, blankets and scarves for family members. She loved her children and family, along with many large family gatherings through the years. Her oatmeal cookies and mashed potatoes were always a treat for everyone.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Jo and Robert J. Rowan, Sr. She leaves behind her children, Douglas Ferrier (Debi) from Ekron, KY, and Katherine Atkins (Reggie) from Memphis, as well as grandchildren Christopher Ferrier, Katelynn Ferrier, Stephanie Springer, Katie Anders and Bobby Ferrier. She also is survived by her sister, Ava Portis (Tom), brothers Robert Rowan (Susan) and John Rowan (Peggy) and many nieces and nephews.
