Macie McNabb Houston

Macie was educated in the Laurel school system and graduated from George S Gardiner High School in 1957, where she was a class beauty. Throughout her life, she remained close to her high school friends—relationships sustained with a gentle steadiness, thoughtful care, and the kind of honest devotion that does not fade with time.

After attending cosmetology school, Macie practiced cosmetology in Laurel and Jackson, Mississippi, and in Memphis, Tennessee. Later, she worked for Reynolds, Bone and Griesbeck CPA firm from 1984 until her retirement in 1996. In every season of her working life, she was known for a kind-hearted presence, a faithful sense of responsibility, and a quiet integrity that earned the trust and affection of those around her.

Macie was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis McNabb; her second husband, Bill Houston; her parents, Robert C. and Alma Rae Mayfield; and her sisters, Bobbye McCoy and Shirley Donald.

She is survived by her daughter, Medley Ewan (Patrick); siblings, Margaret Mayne, Robby Mayfield, Ricky Mayfield (Carol), Melinda McLaurin (Max); grandchildren, Cade Grinder, Mallory Grinder, Grey Ewan (Kaitlyn), Stone Ewan (Rebecca); and great grandchild, Porter Ewan, and countless nieces and nephews.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Macie was deeply beloved, and her care for others was expressed in her thoughtful ways. Macie was a devoted member of Germantown Presbyterian Church and to her church family. She enjoyed volunteering, entertaining and gardening, and she valued community through her membership in the Germantown Women's Club—offering warmth and kindness with a grace that made others feel welcomed and remembered.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Germantown Presbyterian Church, 2363 S. Germantown Road, Germantown, Tennessee 38138. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119.
