Maggie K. Snow, 91, a native of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, died March 12 at Providence Healthcare and Rehabiliation Center in Zeeland, Michigan following a recent fall and surgery. Since 2016, she had been a resident of Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living Center in Hudsonville, Michigan.
Maggie was in born Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to W. Clifton and Maggie Bottom Kirkpatrick. A bright student, she graduated valedictorian from Walnut Ridge High School in the same class with her husband R. Max Snow, who preceded her in death in 2001. They had met in 9th grade and were married in March 1948 after Max had completed his first military service. Maggie worked as a secretary in Walnut Ridge after graduation and during their early years of marriage. After Max’s discharge from his second tour with the Army during the Korean Conflict they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where Max was employed by Memphis Funeral Home. Maggie worked at several different businesses in Memphis, including an interior design firm. Her keen sense of style was reflected in the decor of her home of over half a century in Parkway Village, Memphis.
Maggie, an active member of the Baptist faith from her youth, was a longtime member of Parkway Village Baptist, Kensington Baptist, and Audubon Park Baptist Churches in Memphis, and later of the First Baptist Church of Water Valley, Mississippi. She was a devoted volunteer for church activities, serving in various offices, including as president for Women in Missions. She showed her care for others by providing transportation for church members to medical appointments and by visiting the sick and those in nursing homes.
During her most of her life, Maggie was also active in the community, serving on advisory bodies for the Parkway Village Public Library and the post office. She was a strong support of AARP and once attended its national convention in Washington, DC. She enjoyed traveling, visiting several parts of this country, Europe, the Caribbean, and Tunisia with her husband and later traveling by herself to New Zealand, where she flew in a helicopter to land on a glacier and rode in a “jet-boat.”
Maggie was an avid reader and a great lover of music, particularly of Broadway show music. She played piano, accompanying Max who had a good singing voice. She enjoyed crafts and making things, especially Christmas ornaments for sharing with family and friends. She was an avid correspondent, writing beautiful letters and sending cards on holidays or special occasions to family members and her many friends.
Maggie is survived by her son Stephen R. Snow and daughter-in-law Betty Snow of Hudsonville, Michigan; her brother Charles T. Kirkpatrick of The Woodlands, Texas; three grandchildren Randall Snow, David Snow, and Janet (Cruz) Martinez, all of Michigan; six great-grandchildren Alexander Snow and Isabel, Rebecca, James, Eric, and Emily Martinez, all living in Michigan; niece Carol (Glenn) Labiosa and nephews Robert (Maggie) Kirkpatrick, Timothy (Leisa) Kirkpatrick, Michael (Cora) Kirkpatrick; and great-nephews and great-nieces John Seamus, Liam, Sean, Ryan, Megan, Shannon, and Molly Kirkpatrick. She is also survived by her dear friend Norma (Clayton) Smart of Water Valley, Mississippi. Husband R. Max Snow and son Kirk Duty Snow preceded Maggie in death.
Funeral arrangements are by Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at 11AM, Saturday March 17 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel, preceded by visitation 9-11AM. Burial will be on the same day at approximately 3PM in the Snow Cemetery on 416 Lawrence, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. A memorial service for friends and family in Michigan will be held Saturday March 24 at 2 P.M., at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hudsonville, Michigan.
