Margie Schrodt born Marjorie Ann Snyder was born on January 22, 1934, in Chicago, IL to Albert W. Snyder and “Rose” Rosalia M. (Swiatek) Snyder. She was the fourth born of their four children. She lived her younger years in Elmhurst, IL and was born again at the age of five and lived for the Lord Jesus all her days. At an early age, she and her siblings were radio actors on a Moody Bible Institute radio show (WMBI), promoting Christian children’s books. The older siblings, Betty and Al played the part of Billy and Patty Bangle, and when they were too old, the younger two children, Ed and Margie stepped right into the role, singing and reading scripts. She graduated high school from Wheaton Christian Academy in Wheaton, IL. In the 1950’s, she moved with her family briefly to Denver, CO and then to the Snyder family homestead in Packwood, WA. In 1957, she graduated with a Registered Nursing degree from Seattle Pacific College.
During Margie’s time in Seattle, she met Calvin D Schrodt. Her coffee cake won her way into his heart, and they were married in Seattle on August 31, 1957. They eventually had four children. Margie and “Cal” worked together for the Lord over the years in camps and pastorates in FL, IL, and MS, with Margie playing the piano. As the years progressed, Margie became a nursing instructor at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN; earned her master’s degree in guidance and counselling; administered the nursing staff at a small hospital in Holly Springs, MS; owned and operated the Schrodt Care Homes in Memphis, TN; and nursed at several care homes in the Memphis area.
Margie loved solving crossword puzzles and playing bingo, a little less than her love for her family and the Lord. She was a kind and loving woman, a godly example, and a prayer warrior. She faithfully attended Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis and taught Sunday school for many years under the ministry of Dr Adrian Rogers.
Margie Schrodt lived a full life, and passed away mid-day on December 4, 2023, at the Applingwood Healthcare Center in Cordova, TN, at the age of 89.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Calvin D Schrodt, her sister Elizabeth Pearson (Roy), her brothers Albert Snyder (Evelyn) and Edward Snyder (Pat), her brother-in-law Thomas Schrodt, her daughter Debra Schrodt, and her granddaughter Amanda Hassell. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
