Marvin S. Aikens, 95, of Memphis, died June 8, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was a U. S. Coast Guard veteran and later retired after 47 years from Layne and Bowler as a tool and die maker. Mr. Aikens was a charter member of Macon Road Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and currently a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church. January 24, 1944, he married Rebecca Greer Aikens, who survives him. He also leaves his children, Marvin Aikens, Jr. (Betty) of Portland, OR, Bitsy Siano (Jerry) of Cordova and Harry Aikens of Cordova; grandchildren, Marvin Aikens, III and John Aikens of Portland, and Marvin Siano and Rebecca Billings of Cordova; great-grandchildren, Geno and Gabriel Siano and Kathryn and Kamryn Dacus all of Cordova. He was preceded in death by his parents, Callie Victoria Shumaker and Everett Jackson Aikens and siblings, Herman Aikens, Mattie V. Aikens and Elsie Bright. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 until the service at 2p.m.
