

Mary Catherine Vinsant Grymes of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on August 18, 2025, at her home, she was 101 years old. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. Burial will be at 2:30 PM in Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery, 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis, Tennessee 38016.
Mrs. Grymes is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Sherman Vinsant, her loving husband of 41 years, Herman Grymes Jr. and her daughter, Catherine Grymes Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Faith Robb; son, William Joseph Grymes (Kimberly); her grandchildren, Jennifer Inman, Justin Johnson, Mary Beth Smith, Caitlin Sitler, Bren Grymes and her great grandchildren, Brayden Inman, Harley Inman, Jason Inman, Jace Johnson, Jett Johnson, Chet Sitler.
Mrs. Grymes graduated from Agnes Scott College and continued her graduate work at the University of Memphis. During WWII she volunteered with the American Red Cross and spent many memorable hours knitting scarves for the RAF and participating in activities to support our troops overseas. She taught at both Central High School and White Station High School during the 70's. A longtime member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Grymes held several church offices: President of the Women of the Church, Choir Member, Selection Committee Member, Circle Leader, Moderator for the Bible Study Leaders, Deacon, Chairwoman of the White Cross, Flower Committee Member.
Her charitable work included presiding over the Thalia Chapter of Kings Daughters and Sons. Her other offices include president of Parkdale Garden Club and docent at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens for 23 years. An avid reader, Mrs. Grymes was known for her deep Christian faith, her love of family and her willingness to volunteer for church work and charitable giving. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
The family request that any memorials be sent to Church Health Care, Idlewild presbyterian Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
