

Mary Ruth Piercy Turpin, 81, died January 25, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis. A visitation will be held Friday, January 28, 2011 from 5 -7 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Poplar Chapel. Funeral services will be at Poplar Chapel, Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Turpin was a beloved mother, homemaker, and retired secretary of 25 years for Woodland Presbyterian Church. Her passion and her life was serving her family and friends spiritually, emotionally, and financially. She attentively cared for her sister, Alice and her husband Irving Hunter Turpin in his last 5 years of life, without complaint. Mrs. Turpin did so cheerfully and willingly without expectation of a reward. Her legacy is the wisdom and character given to her 4 sons and grandchildren. She embodies the spirit of the Proverbs 31:10-31 woman. Mary was an avid University of Memphis Basketball fan. She was instrumental in the administration of the family Game Call business while regularly attending Turkey and Game Call events in support of the family business. A book chronicling the family Game Call business is currently being written by her son Steve and will be dedicated in her honor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Michael (Terry) Turpin of Longview, TX; Russell (April) Turpin of Benton, AR; Larry (Shannon) Turpin; and Steve Turpin both of Memphis; one brother, Ed Piercy of Florida; 2 grandsons, Zachary and Philip Turpin, and one granddaughter, December Turpin.
