

Melvin Gene Baker was born November 8, 1953, in Roundpond, Arkansas, to Johnnie and Augusta Baker. He accepted Christ at the age of thirty at Original Holy Ark Church in Chicago, Illinois, under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Davis.
A Time to Plant
Melvin was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, where he was a member of the track team. He worked as a carpenter, a welder, a maintenance technician, and as a maintenance supervisor for several companies such as Robert and Schafer Engineering Company, Peck Sign Industry, Memphis International Airport, and Warren Apartments. His last place of employment was with C.E. Ware.
A Time to Love
Melvin was joined in holy matrimony to Regina Ann Baker, his high school sweetheart, on July 26, 1975. To this union, two wonderful children were born, Chanel Annette Baker and Rhonda Denise Carter.
A Time to Depart
Melvin departed this life Monday, July 13, 2020. He touched the hearts of everyone he knew. His sweet, quiet disposition, captivating smile, sense of humor, and wisdom endeared all that he knew.
A Time to Mourn
Melvin will be truly missed by those who love him. He leaves to cherish his life: his wife, Regina Baker; his daughters, Chanel Annette Baker and Rhonda Denise Carter (Greg Carter); his grandchildren, Kaliyah Carter, Kamirah Carter, Victoria Hollins, Kelvin Carter, and Katherine Hollins; his father, Johnnie Baker; six sisters, Eunice Cox, Doris Jefferies (Tommie), Carolyn Hampton, Debra Powers, Johnnie Marie, and Cynthia Hampton; two brothers, Johnnie Baker (Phyllis) and Levon Baker; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Augusta Baker; his sister, Cynthia Marshall; and two brothers, James Baker and Larry Baker.
