Meryl Wilson Stewart, 96, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025. He was a native Memphian, who served in the U. S. Navy; and subsequently, joined the U. S. Airforce, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant while based in Anchorage, Alaska. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe W. and Jewel Light Stewart, his wife Mabel Maxine Stewart, his daughter, Nikki Lynn Stewart and son David W. Stewart.
As a younger man, Mr. Stewart was an avid hunter and fisherman. He built a home on the Kenai River in Alaska and enjoyed hosting family and friends there. He fished for salmon on the river and halibut in Homer Bay. He did this for many years until he and his wife moved to Leesburg, Florida, where golf became his passion. Sometime later, Mr. Stewart and his wife moved back to his Memphis roots.
After the passing of his wife, he found a new home at Kirby Pines where he met and made many new friends, who cheerfully welcomed him into their community. As a resident of Kirby Pines, he enjoyed serving in various positions that allowed him to selflessly give back to that community. He also enjoyed faithfully attending church services at Kirby Pines and Central Church. Meryl will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Salvation Army or Disabled American Vets.
Bible Verse to include:
"For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.”

A graveside service for Meryl will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133.
