

Mevolene Rippy, age 93, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. She was born on November 5, 1931, in Myrtle, Mississippi, the fourth of nine children to Coy Jefferson McDaniel and Arie Martha Day McDaniel.
Mevolene grew up in Myrtle, where she spent her childhood picking cotton and playing basketball. In 1950, she moved to Memphis, a city she grew to love and call home. Throughout her life, she worked with United Way, Arrowglass, Gordon Transport, and later enjoyed a successful career in real estate, where she earned many awards for her dedication and service.
Beyond her career, Mevolene had a gift for bringing joy to others. She cherished her nieces and nephews, treating them to unforgettable experiences such as Beatles and Elvis concerts. She treasured time spent with her sisters, found strength and community in worship at Bellevue Baptist Church, and was always quick to get behind the wheel to take care of friends and family around Memphis. Her life was one of generosity, faith, and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy Jefferson and Arie Martha McDaniel; her brothers, James Coy McDaniel and Billy Owen McDaniel; and her sisters, Katherine Ledbetter (Walter), Ivory Stamey (David), Patty Jo Priest (Myron), Elaine Russell (Sonny), and Kay Reasons (Wayne).
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Christine Wixon (Clifton), along with generations of nieces and nephews who adored her and will continue to celebrate her remarkable life and legacy.
Family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Monday, September 8 at Family Funeral Care 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122. A graveside service will follow at 11:30am at Crittenden Memorial Park 2206 US-64, Marion, AR.
