Michael Edwin Griffith, age 84, of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Saturday, April 6, 2024. He was born September 28, 1939 in Lorain, Ohio to Richard and Vera Griffith. He grew up with two sisters, Maureen and Sally. After graduating from Loraine High School, Michael joined the United States Marine Corps. After completing his service, he attended Ohio University and received his bachelor's and master's degrees. After working for Alcoa in Texas, he moved to Memphis to work for Afco Metals. He later started his own successful business as a manufacturer's representative.
Michael ran several marathons, including the Marine Corps and New York marathons. He was an avid hunter and dog trainer. He also enjoyed golf and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Griffith; children, Kimberly Hults (David), Erin Strong (Vincent), and Christopher Griffith (Jana); and grandchildren, Madison Strong, Olivia Griffith, and Emma Griffith. He is also survived by his dear sister, Maureen Krajcovic. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sally Vetovitz.
There will be a Memorial Mass on Thursday, April 11 at 10:00 AM, at Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest Drive, Memphis, TN 38119. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
