Marilyn and family - our hearts go out to you at your loss but we wanted you to know that you have never been forgotten. Mike was a great mentor for me and helped set my career path for which I will forever be thankful. You were our family during that time frame in Cuba. Know that we love you and are praying for the strength as we all face the final duty station. I know Mike will be there to greet us.

I met Mr Potter about 24 years ago. He welcomed my family and I to the new neighborhood. He and his wife ( Marilyn ) gave us that warm and fuzzy feeling that's lasted for 24 years. He was a good man and a great friend who liked to always smoke a shoulder or the sort to make me eat more than I needed to eat. He was extremely knowledgeable about so many things and if you were ever in a conversation with him, it was so easy because he would do most of the talking. I count myself blessed to have known such a man, a man of many facets. He's left some BIG shoes to fill. I'm gong to miss him greatly.

If you had the honor of working on his team Mr.Potter never forgot the women on Valentine's Day.He would shower us with beautiful Valentine bouquets .He always made sure his team members were well taken care of .This just one of many memories.I could always get an in depth explanation of any current / past event that bestowed our country .We would share our travel adventures.I truly will miss my friend.A friend is a gift you give yourself.Rest in Peace my friend.Love and miss you. For those of us lucky enough to have spent time with Mike, we were the ones that were blessed. From my earliest days in the Navy, Mike was my surrogate father and always seemed to be there when I needed advice the most. My military career was made possible because of Mike, and Marilyn was always there with a gentle and kind word to help me in my early days. It was not my career that was most important, but Mike's guiding hand led to almost every success in my life. Mike will be missed, and the world we know will be less with his departure.

Michael Potter, my grandpa, the man who raised me. I am the oldest grandchild and first granddaughter. He has taught me how to swim at the Navy base and more things. He was our dr when we fell our chef no matter how he felt our teacher my "uber" as gma would call them. He helped me raise my 3 boys. From going fishing to taking them camping with their cub Scouts to whatever they wanted. You will forever be missed and loved.

Mike’s impact on me was powerful and my life was forever changed by it. Through his subtle guidance in the early years, I began to see military service in a different light. The result of his thoughts and suggestions rewarded me with some of the best years of my life. Numerous time zones often separated us. But phone conversations with Mike brought clarity when I often needed it. The photos taken at Windmill Beach, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, brought back memories of the day I was introduced to Marilyn and the girls. Little did I know what a positive role they would play in my life for years to come. Mike, shipmate, maybe I will once again see you on the beach. Rest In Peace.
