Lane was born on April 16th, 1953, in El Paso, TX where his father was stationed during his Airforce service. After the family moved back to Memphis, his younger sister Tanyia was born. Lane attended Grahamwood Elementary School and graduated from Treadwell High School in 1972. He loved to shoot and was a sharpshooter in the ROTC during high school. He started slinging crust for Shakey’s Pizza to impress everyone and later worked at Bonanza steakhouse with his friend David Ray. In his senior year of high school, Lane met Sandra, the love of his life, on a blind date arranged by his cousin. He proposed in Audubon Park with a ring box and a piece of bubble gum inside, but not before after accidentally spilling a Coke on Sandra's new handmade outfit! She forgave him and they were married for 48 years! Lane and Sandra have two amazing children Mandi and Jeremy.
Lane and Sandra raised their children in Memphis together, along with family pets, particularly his German Shepperd Rosco. He coached for most of Mandi's softball career, and was by her side all the way to winning a championship! He taught Jeremy and Mandi's husband Joshua how to repair their own vehicles and now both have lasting careers in the automotive industry. Lane began his career with Coleman Taylor as an R and R technician and worked his way up to shop manager during a 22-year stretch. He built quite a reputation for his knowledge and skill at rebuilding transmissions, ranging from Sedans to Firetrucks to Earthmoving equipment. There's even a video of him taking apart a transmission in record time! He left for a brief time to work for AutoZone in their call center, ATAC/Transtar selling transmission parts, before eventually returning to Coleman Taylor and retiring in 2011. After his retirement, he was very active with his grandson Caleb, doing yard work, and continuing his lifelong obsession with collecting muscle cars, especially his beloved 1957 Chevy.
He leaves behind his wife Sandra Hopkins, his children Mandi Muchmore (Joshua) and Jeremy Hopkins (Christina), his grandson Caleb Muchmore, his sister Tanyia Kerley (Joe), his nephew Tyler Kerley, niece Alex Kerley Tallent, and their children.
