

Neil Wall Simpson, Olive Branch, MS, 89, passed into glory May 8th, 2026. A native of Waverly, TN, he was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather, & great grandfather. He worshiped with the East Shelby Church of Christ and served as a deacon for seven years and as an elder for thirty-six years. Neil was known for his strong faith, integrity and strong convictions. He encouraged all to love the Lord and follow his ways.
Neil attended Memphis State out of high school. He started working at 19 years old with Memphis Light Gas & Water & retired after 31 years. He then worked for Methodist Hospital for another 12 years. Friendships made at both jobs have lasted a lifetime.
He enjoyed playing football at his alma mater, Treadwell High school, snow skiing, traveling with his wife, enjoying all his grandchildren’s activities and above all, playing the ukulele. He wrote songs for retirement parties, weddings & birthdays. He had a list of over 500 people he would sing and play “Happy Birthday” to by text or voicemail every year. He will be greatly missed.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Roxie Simpson; sister Anne Dees, brother-in-law Charlie Dees, & brother Alvin Simpson.
Neil is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Marca Lee, his three children; Susan Yarbrough, Doug (Maryne) and Steve Simpson(Amy), brother James Simpson (Marilyn) & sister-in-law Dolly Simpson. He went by Papa or Rocky Pop to his 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was very proud of his large family of 50.
Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis Tennessee on May 13, 2016, at 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Memphis Memory Gardens 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Rd, Memphis, Tennessee following the service.
