OBITUARY

Pamela May

June 3, 1960October 28, 2020

Mrs. Pamela June Crain May, daughter of the late Gloria and James Crain was born June 3, 1960 in Memphis, TN. She attended Southern Baptist Education Center and Memphis State University. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Whitehaven Baptist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to Alan W. May in May of 1990.

Pam was an amazingly bold and compassionate woman with a tremendous sense of humor. She was a loyal friend and loved by all. She accepted Alan’s marriage proposal on their first date, and moved to Alaska and to Kenya, East Africa sight unseen, trusting the LORD and following Alan as God led. Pam and Alan spent their first nine years of marriage in Anchorage, Alaska where they served the LORD in South Anchorage Baptist Church and made many lifelong friends.

They moved back to Memphis from Anchorage in 1998, and returned to Germantown Baptist Church where they had originally met and where they were married. At GBC they led an Adult Bible Fellowship where they forged lasting relationships with so many young people whom Pam lovingly called her “kids.” On Valentine’s Day of 2005 they moved to Kenya, East Africa where they established the Haven children’s home for orphaned and abandoned children. Though Pam never had any children of her own, she has more than 120 children in Kenya. Pam and Alan moved back to Memphis in May of 2008 and began attending Living Hope Church. Pam absolutely loved to worship the LORD with her Living Hope family. She served in the nursery where she loved to rock the toddlers to sleep. Over the years, she was instrumental in leading gospel community groups where more and more lifelong friendships were formed.

Pam was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and most of her aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Alan, her sister Lynn, her uncle Willard C. “Buddy” Follis; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many, many children and grandchildren in Kenya. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her family and friends.
