Paul James Acerra, 94, passed away April 24, 2018. He was a retired Captain with the Memphis Police Department, Detective Division, a United States Navy Veteran having served during WW II on the submarine tender Euryale and the submarine Cavalla in the South Pacific. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, an avid golfer, he enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, Notre Dame sports, and working in his yard. He loved life and was ravioli chef deluxe at Our Lady of Sorrow Church events.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Jeanette Acerra; sisters, Mary Frances Acerra Lovell and Margaret Acerra Dries; brothers, Bishop Angelo (Tom Acerra),O.S.B., and Jack Acerra; and a niece, Nancy Caldwell Wright.
He is survived by nieces, Paula Busler, Linda Murley, Susie Hayes and Jenny Smith; nephews, Steve Lovell, David Lovell, Mark Lovell, Chris Lovell, Gene Dries, William Dries and John Dries.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 25, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. A Rosary Service will be held at 8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M on Thursday April 26 at Our Lady of Sorrows, 3690 Thomas Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38127.
