

Hernando - Phil Byron “Big Dawg” Benson, 65, passed away February 22, 2013. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, and funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, all at Family Funeral Care on Summer Avenue. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bartlett. Born on December 18, 1947 in Blytheville, AR, Phil graduated from Treadwell High School, attended Mississippi State University, and served six years in the Army Reserves. He worked several years with Dupont and the Bartlett Police Department, and most recently he was employed by FedEx as a Senior Planner/Scheduler. His passion in life was riding his Harley Davidson, and he was a member of the Southern Harley Thunder, American Bikers Active Towards Education (ABATE of Mississippi), the Patriot Guard Riders, and was a founding member of the Dawg Pound. Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Theresa “Tesa” Benson; and his parents, Gordon H. and Bobbie Jean Benson. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Benson Jones of Kernersville, NC; his son, Shannon T. Benson (BethAnne) of Bartlett; his brother, George Benson (Vicky) of Eads, TN; his sister, Beth Lindsey; and three grandchildren, Cameron T. Benson, Kalynn R. Jones, and Nicholas F. Benson.
