Raymond J. "Ray" Ricossa, Sr.

He is preceded in death by his parents Louis Sr. and Rose (Vescovo). He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie (Viviani) Ricossa, his children Ray Jr. (Patti) & Cheryl, his grandchildren Tyler (Ashley), Grant, & Reagan, his brother Louis (Frances) Ricossa Jr., and his two nieces Lynn (Travis) Yadon & Carol Ricossa.

Ray was a native of Memphis, CBHS Class of 1954, Memphis State University, BBA ’58. For over 50 years, Ray established a successful career in Sales & Management, and carried his passion into many civic engagements. Ray dedicated over 27 years as a lifetime member of the White Station Optimist Club, and was recognized as Optimist of the Year Award in 1994. Ray continued to give of his time and talent with over 25 years in UNICO, the largest Italian American service organization, serving 3 terms as President, & 1 term as TN District Governor. One of his proudest honors was receiving the 2003 UNICO Italian American of the Year Award. In 2010, Ray was inducted into the Christian Brothers High School Hall of Fame for his many contributions to the school and community.

Parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church for over 45 years, Ray loved to welcome his friends as a greeter and usher every Sunday. Through the years, Ray was an organizer and volunteer of many school programs, dedicating over 25 years with the Memphis Italian Festival.

Aside from his contributions to his church and community, many remember Ray for his contagious smile, giving spirit, and lifelong support of the Memphis Tigers. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and close friends, golfing at Windyke Country Club, and traveling with his wife and family.

Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home – Poplar on Tuesday, December 20, from 5-8pm, with Rosary prayer at 7:30pm. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 21, at 1pm, with burial service immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
