

Richard Marvin Almond, II, 69, of Lakeland, TN died November 1, 2012. He was with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office for 27 years and retired as Assistant Chief. After retirement, he was the Financial Director for the cities of Millington and Oakland. Richard was a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he was on the 1964 College World Series Varsity Baseball Team. He was a member of the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame, the M Club at Ole Miss, a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association as a bull rider and an associate member of the Professional Golf Association. Mr. Almond was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Irene Almond. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara J. Almond, his children, Richard Marvin "Marty" Almond, III (Vicki) of Arlington and Carol Almond Cothran (Duffy) of Cordova, his brother, Raymond G. Almond, Jr. and grand-children, Megan and Justin Almond and Abby and Chad Cothran. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 5 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Special Olympics.
