Richard James Martin passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan, daughters Laura Parganas (Evan), Susan Hissong, Patty Noland (Tracy), Tracy Snipes (Chuck) and son Daniel Martin as well as his 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his brother Jay Martin (Marilyn) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Martin and brothers Mills and Don Martin. Richard more affectionally known as Dick or Bompa was born is Lake Forest, Illinois on November 7, 1934. As a young man he served in the army and attended Christian Brothers University. Dick was employed by Exxon as a gas maker (that’s what his granddaughter Lauren said anyway) for 30 years, it was that work that brought him to Memphis, TN. He was an avid golfer, often volunteering at the Fed Ex St. Jude Classic; a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, a lover of pistachios and the best husband, dad, Bompa and friend you could ever ask for. He rarely had a frown on his face, always had a new made-up word to share and a horse bite to give your knee. The hole he has left in our world will never be filled, but his family smiles knowing that he is playing the best golf ever and watching over us like only he could. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Family Funeral Care. A Mass Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 11:00 – 12:00 followed by a Committal Service at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm.
