OBITUARY

Richard "Rick" Ray Long

May 14, 1949July 25, 2020

Richard Ray Long, age 71, of Batesville, Mississippi passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Richard was born May 14, 1949 in Memphis, TN to Marvina and Billy Ray Long.

He graduated from Kingsbury High School and attended Memphis State. After college, he worked for Wittichen Lime and Cement of Memphis for several years. After years with Southern Concrete, he retired. Rick knew the business extremely well. He knew this profession so well, one time he quoted a job for the number of bricks needed for a project; they only had 3 bricks left over upon completion. He was very efficient and knowledgeable as a masonry. Everyone liked Rick. He never met a stranger and to tell jokes and make people laugh made his day.

Rick is survived by his wife, Patsy Long; two sons, Robert Ray Long and Richard (Wendy) Long, Jr.; two daughters, Melissa and Angie (Myfis) Wims; one sister, Victoria Fortune; nine grandchildren, Calvin, Hayden, Paige, Austin, Randy, Haley, Nikki, Allison and Hunter; one great grandchild, Carson; numerous cousins that he loved and cherished the time he spent with them.

We will miss you Rick and we all love you very much. Someday we will all be together again.

A graveside service for Rick will be on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM, Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134.

I was proud to call this man my father in law for almost a decade. He was a hard worker and put his family before anything and loved making everyone laugh. Christmas was the best for my kids because nothing was too much for them. They had wonderful memories with their papaw. Austin would go and help clean and learn about the business with Rick from just a little boy and his co-workers watched him grow up and become a great adult. He wants nothing more than to follow in his footsteps and I know he will. God bless this family and help them through this tough time. Rest in peace Rick!! You can smile for eternity now:)

I had alot of respect for Rick...he was so respectful and kind to my Aunt Evelyn McCullough. That kindness and respect he showed to her made a great impression on me. Rest in Peace Rick.

I have many of us as kids growing up but the sweetest one is the day he went into the hospital for the last time. We were getting ready to leave ( his Mom and I) as his son Richard was getting him to go to the ER. I leaned down, hugged him and told him I loved him and he said “I love you too and thank you for bringing my Mom to see me”. ! I’ll never forget those sweet words! His Mom (My Aunt) had ask me to take her to see him and she prepared him his favorite meal , roast potatoes and carrots!
And banana pudding! He enjoyed it and kept thanking her and saying how good it was ! Rest In Peace sweet Rick! You will be greatly missed!!!
