

Richard Davis Sims, 91, of Memphis, passed away on September 11, 2015. He was born on September 4th, 1924 to the late Charles and Fleta Sims. He was preceded in death not only by his parents but also his siblings: Hollice and J. Clayton Sims, Mary Charles Taylor and Louise Purvis. Mr. Sims is survived by his wife, Agnes Callis Sims, two children, Richard Callis Sims (Deborah) and Elizabeth Sims Clayton (Stacy), and two grandchildren, Rachel Gentry (Will) and Rick Sims. Mr. Sims was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Sims served proudly in WWII, Korea War and Cold War for the US Army Air Corp. He received over 25 honors including a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters, 9 Battle Stars, 4 Presidential Citations, Meritorious Service Medal for volunteering crew missions, several Liberation medals and even the Air Combat Borneo in Paris, France. He retired after 37 years from Sears and decided to continue working for Southern Fabricators of Capleville, TN. He enjoyed woodworking so much that he even entered items in the Mid-South Fair and received awards for them. His closest friends often received things he crafted from wood. Mr. Sims coached baseball and basketball at Mullins United Methodist church along with teaching Sunday school for many years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and friend. His absence will truly be felt from all of those he inspired. The family will receive friends and relatives from 1-2:30pm on Sunday, September 13th at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. The funeral will begin at 2:30pm. The burial will follow.
