Robert “Lunchbox” McRae was brought into this world March 7, 1983, and he left this world on September 1, 2021. He is survived by his mother Ronna Thomas (Jeff), brother Michael McRae (Stephanie "Shugg"), father Duncan McRae (Linda), grandfather Barton Smalley (A.k.a. Pawpaw) and beloved dog Harvey. Robert was preceded in death by grandparents Judge Robert and Louise McRae and Nelda Smalley.
Robert and Michael were brothers, best friends, and owners of The Historic Peoples on Beale. He graduated from Harding Academy in 2001. He loved sports, especially the Memphis Tigers and grizzlies. Robert was an iconic figure around Beale Street and worked in the Historic District for over 20 years. He will be deeply missed by the whole Peoples family and the downtown service industry. Robert loved life and was very charismatic. He was hilarious, a very savvy businessman, and a true hustler! He was the most loyal of friends and an amazing father figure to Demetrius (Meechie). He touched the lives of every person that crossed his path. Robert was a very open minded and welcoming person of all different types of people and a real humanitarian. He was constantly offering to help those around him. His light and legacy will shine brightly for many many years to come but, a huge hole has been left in the hearts of all who knew him. His sweet smile may no longer be in our presence but his lessons of loyalty to family and friends will live on forever in those who knew him. Rest in peace Robert McRae never forget how loved you are.
