

Robert Michael Mohundro, born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 26, 1943, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on July 13, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Peacher Mohundro, his father Robert E. Lee Mohundro, his two brothers Timothy and Daniel, and his four beloved fur babies Scooter, Kacie, Muffin, and Dixiedoodle.
After Mr. Mohundro graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis, he proudly joined the United States Army. His assignments included the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, the 173rd Airborne BDE, 75th Infantry Rangers (Vietnam), 101st Airborne Division-Ranger (Vietnam), 1st Bn 10th Special Forces Ranger Group Airborne (Germany), Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson, US Army Parachute Team-Golden Knights, Fort Bragg Freefall Jumpmaster, and Desert Storm and Provide Comfort (Iraq).
SGM (Ret) Robert M Mohundro E9-Special Forces Operations NCO-Received many awards and among them are the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, Army Commendation Awards, Army Achievement medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Wings, Military Freefall Wings, German Fallschrimspringen Wings, French Parachietiste Wings, and Special Forces Tab. By the time he retired, he had made over 3000 parachute jumps.
After retirement, Mr. Mohundro and wife resided in Memphis, then Colorado Springs, and moved to Kingsland, Georgia in 2007. He remained active by biking, swimming, weightlifting, and skiing when possible. He sang in the choir of the churches they attended, and taught Sunday School and helped with VBS when the opportunities arose. Although he enjoyed reading non-fiction books about US Army Strategy and Special Forces, Mr. Mohundro’s final mission was to enjoy his family and home life to the fullest. Mission was successful as evidenced daily in the memories of all who loved him.
Known as 1st Sgt., Sergeant Major, Mo, Brother, Mike, Dad, Popop, Popi, and Opa, Mr. Mohundro leaves behind his loving wife Susan Jill; daughter Jessica Carothers (Kenny); sons Robert L. Mohundro (Ashley), Anthony Seymour (LaDawna), and Sam Long (Vonda); and his stepchildren David Anspaugh (Mikki) and Aimee McHann. He also leaves behind his much loved grandchildren, Blake S, Annalise, Devin, Noah, Sydne, Luke, Blake C, Maeve, Knox M, Connor, Isaac, Thomas and Tori; nine precious great-grandchildren Emmalyn, Leo, Titus, Mary, Vivian, Charlotte, Kade, Knox W, and Sam; sister in law Judi Dosa (Csaba); and cousins Carla Peacher-Ryan (Holmes), Donna Peacher-Hall (Herb), Shirley Gustman (Ron) and Carolyn Dearen.
