Rodger, a resident of Horn Lake, MS, was born in Memphis, TN on March 16, 1950, to Lloyd and Frances Jones. Mr. Jones was the beloved husband of Ida Susan Jones for 54 years. Mr. And Mrs. Jones were united in marriage September 14, 1968, at Union Avenue Church of Christ in Memphis, TN. Mr. Jones was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably as a Sergeant/Aircraft Electrician in Texas, Illinois, Guam, and Okinawa from 1968-1974. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years, retiring in 2005.
Mr. Jones was the proud and loving Daddy to Tiffany (Terry) of Olive Branch, MS, Rodger Jr. of Memphis, TN, and Heather (Johnnathon) of Olive Branch, MS. He was the beloved Paw Paw to eight grandchildren, T.J.(Kayla), Jeffrey (Tiffany), Paislee, Jack, Christian, Rodger III, Nicholas, and Donovan, and seven great-grandchildren, Hudson, Oliver, Maxie Jane, J.J., Riley, Kaiison, and Noëlla Grace. He is also survived by his brother, Leroy Jones, and a host of family, friends and acquaintances, including lifelong friends Frank Perry and Mike Palazola.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his beloved “Baby Doll”, his wife Susan, his parents, Frances and Lloyd Jones, brothers Lamar, Mark and Chris Jones and in-laws Reeder and Anne Dowdy.
Mr. Jones was an avid woodworker and rose gardener. He coached a number of little league baseball teams for many years. He and Susan loved to travel and visited a number of places in the US and abroad. Favorite places to visit were Rapid City, SD, the Grand Tetons, Indianapolis, IN, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. Above all, he loved and cherished his family. He always put others before himself, always offering a helping hand to anyone that needed it, blessed many with his talent for woodworking and fixing things, and particularly delighted in spoiling his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but comfort comes in knowing that he has been reunited in heaven with his Baby Doll, parents, family, and friends who passed before him.
Services will take place on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN, 38119. Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm with the memorial service immediately following. Burial will be a private ceremony at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, it was Rodger’s request for donations to be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help children battling catastrophic diseases. The Memorial link can be found here:
