Rosemary Burt, 81, of Memphis, TN, died peacefully on November 3, 2021, at Methodist North Hospital. She was born in Toone, TN, on January 22, 1940, to Marvin Roach and Dorothy Fuller Broome. Rosemary was best known for her lifelong faith in God and service to others. After giving her life to Christ at a young age, Rosemary grew up to become an intercessory prayer warrior, a role she took very seriously. A notebook of tracked prayer requests and praise reports can be found on her nightstand with her Bible to this day.
In the 1960’s Rosemary relocated to Cleveland, OH, where she lived for 23 years while raising her only son. In the 1980’s Rosemary returned to Tennessee to be a caregiver for her cousin Dennis Fuller in Memphis. Having grown up on a farm, she loved cooking for those recovering from illnesses or grief. Very active in her church, Greater First Baptist in Memphis, Rosemary was a member of its Mother Board. One of her favorite pastimes was listening to gospel quartets throughout the day while sitting on her porch, waving to passers-by.
As a survivor of many life battles, Rosemary supported causes to help others do the same. Her favorites included the Southern Poverty Law Center in the fight against hatred, the USO supporting military members and their families, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for children with cancer. In honor of Rosemary’s legacy, the family established a memorial fund with St. Jude’s. Details are listed below.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Roach and Dorothy Fuller Broome; her husband, Farris Burt; two brothers, Thomas and Porter Broome; and a first cousin, Odester Holloway.
She is survived by her son, Jerry L. Roach, Sr. (Pam), and five grandchildren: Jerry L. Roach, Jr. (Natavia), Stephen Jordan, Stephanie White, Christina Roach, and Jamison Roach; and one great-grandson, Jalen Roach; one sister, Dorothy Anderson Broome, and first cousins, Bertha Mae Gordon, Nylon Holloway, and Arliss Adams.
