Ruby Jerlene Black, age 93, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022. Ruby was born October 21, 1928, in Paragould, Arkansas. She worked for 15 years at Methodist Hospital as a nurse's assistant, as well as a variety of other occupations prior to that. She retired in 1980. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was well-known for making her own delicious homemade jelly and peanut brittle.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Alvis Black, Jr.; daughter, Linda Sue Watson; and brother, James. D. Flanery.
She is survived by her children, David Black (Bobbie Scott), Keith Black (Deborah Bannister), and Carol Walker (Buck); 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Reba Gross of Clearwater, Kansas.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 11 beginning at 2:00 PM until the memorial service at 3:00 PM, all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis,Tennessee.
