Shari Ann Long, age 50, was carried on angels’ wings to her heavenly home July 5th, 2019. She is survived by her parents, Doyal and Barbara Long and her brother, Andrew (Kristin) Long. She was very proud to be called “Aunt Shari” by Ryan and Hannah Long. She was a graduate of Union University in Jackson, TN and Ole Miss where she earned her second Masters degree.

Shari participated in four mission trips to Honduras with a medical/dental team. She developed a great passion for immigrants and appreciation for other cultures. During her post-graduate work at Ole Miss, she traveled to Spain one summer and studied at the University of Salamanca. She pursued a PhD at the University of Alabama, completing two years, but was unable to continue due to health problems. During her studies at Ole Miss and Alabama, she taught Spanish. Shari endeared herself to a great host of friends, and continued communicating with them during her last days. Their comments about their interaction with Shari brought pride to her family.

Family will receive friends on Friday, July 12th from 1-2PM with memorial service to follow at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Avenue Memphis, TN.

My Condolences to the Long family. Shari was one of my very first Roommate’s at Union University my Freshman Year 1989-1990. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. May your family find peace and comfort in the days ahead.

Prayers and memories of this family. Our prayers are with you during this time. I remember her during her early yrs at church, children's choir and services. I am amazed at her accomplishments - education, service to others and her God. I am sure there are many rewards waiting. So many complain and give excuses, but she always had a smile. Her family served and she caught what she was taught by example. What a reunion there has been and will be later. Looking forward to that day! Til then, friends.

We have many sweet memories of Shari over the years. The last time I got to see her was in 2010 when I sang for a special event at Bellevue Baptist. Here's the only photo I have of the two of us together. Her bold, creative spirit will be missed. But praise, God, through Jesus Christ, I WILL SEE HER AGAIN. Doyal, Barbara, Andrew, and family...this family loves you and is praying for you.

My condolences to Mr. & Mrs. Long, and to Andrew & his family. I "met" Shari through her blog back in 2006. We connected right away and had many conversations online about the things we loved (and the things that drove us crazy!) haha. I was moved by Shari's life story, and constantly amazed by her spirit and inspired by her life. She was always there on Facebook with a witty comment or comeback. She turned me on to so many good TV shows! She knew how to get the most out of life, even in circumstances that weren't the best. Shari lived her BEST life.

The world was a better place because of Shari Long. And now it seems vastly more empty and less warm. Miss you, lady!
