Sue Bechakas Hastas died Sat. Sept. 24, 2022 in Memphis, TN where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law since 2006. She was born Dec 15, 1928 in Niagra Falls, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Gus and a her brother, Terry Gus Bechakas.
Sue is survived her daughter, Cynthia, son-in-law, Michael Morris; two granddaughters, Kayce Morris and Kristen Hayes; three great-granddaughters, Hope, Kendall and Emma Grace; her sister, Lilly Pappas, and sister-in-law Eras Bechakas; several nieces and nephews.
Sue was a graduate of Bradford Area High School and Miss Hickey's Secretarial School in St. Louis, MO. She served as a secretary for the office of Urban Renewal in Olean, NY, and as secretary for St. Stephen Episcopal Church in Olean for many years. She was an avid snow skier, played golf and tennis and played in several bridge groups. In addition to being a Sunday School teacher, she was a Cub Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader, and was President of the PTA at School #2. In Tennessee, she was the founder of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Ellendale United Methodist Church, where she taught countless women to knit.
