Sylvia Yancey Edwards, 85, died peacefully at home March 5, 2016, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom D. (Bill) Edwards, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Michael Edwards and William Edwards, daughter Erin Ward (John), grandchildren Rachel Edwards, Michelle Edwards T.D. Edwards and Daniel Ward and great-grandson Jackson Edwards. Sylvia graduated from Tech High School in 1948 and Memphis State University four years later. She was a 29-year veteran of Memphis City Schools, teaching physical education and coaching and later serving as an area supervisor. After retirement, Sylvia enjoyed traveling and spent many hours gardening, as well as refining her skills in watercolor and oil painting. The family will receive friends at 11am Monday, March 7th at Kirby Woods Baptist Church with services to follow at 1pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Kirby Woods Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
