Thurman DeWitt Coulter, Jr., 88 of Memphis, Tennessee died August 30, 2013 at his home surrounded by his wife and family. Born in Collierville, Tennessee on April 6, 1925, Mr. Coulter was a commercial construction contractor and a member of the Oakville Masonic Lodge #599 and the Al Chymia Shrine Temple. The family will receive guests and friends on Sunday, September 1 from five o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening and funeral services will be Monday, September 2 beginning at ten o’clock in the morning all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. In respect for being a Mason a masonic service will conclude the funeral service and his love for good food will be represented by refreshments being provided on Sunday. Mr. Coulter was preceded in death by his sons Sam Diggs & Wayne Coulter, and sister Nell Moore. He is survived by his wife Jean Coulter; daughters Carolyn Ashley, Cindy Newman and Lisa Rhodes; sons Jimmy Coulter, David Coulter and Wes Gore; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. You are all in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Thurman left Rick and me a sack full of good memories. Too many to list. The stupid walnut shell he insisted on drilling holes in because I mentioned it would make a good "bird house," sharing music with my son, introducing me as his cousin and making us all welcome in his life.
