Vita B. Gattuso

Vita Bomarito Gattuso was born to Roselia and Dominick Bomarito on February 17, 1922. Vita graduated from St. Patrick Catholic School and attended both Catholic High School and St. Agnes Academy. Vita went to work at Fisher Aircraft during the war to save money and help her mother maintain a household, while her brother Sam was in the army. With the money she saved and the money Sam sent home they opened a restaurant in 1948 called Pete and Sam’s. She worked at Fisher Lime and Cement Company as a Comptometor operator before joining her brother in the family business. She would remain there, fondly known as Ms. Vita, until her health declined in July of 2009. Ms. Vita was a fixture at the front of the restaurant, sitting by her brother Sam’s side in her chair by the cash register, greeting and seating customers as they came through the door. Ms. Vita wouldn’t let a young customer pass by without selecting a Dum Dum from the Dum Dum sucker tree. Vita moved into Ave Maria Home in July of 2009 and lived there until she went to be with Jesus on July 16, 2018. She is preceded in death by her mother Roselia, father Dominick, brothers Paul and Sam, husband Sam Gattuso and son Dominic Gattuso. She leaves behind her daughter Camille Black ( Jimmy), 2 sons Paul ( Patty) and Frankie ( Donna), 4 granddaughters Laurie Roberts, Becky Lewis ( Frank), Anna Gattuso and Emily Gattuso, and 2 grandsons Jerry Gattuso ( Callie) and Michael. She also leaves 7 great grandchildren; Allese, Lauren, and Jennings Lewis, Gabe and Stephen Roberts, Dylan Gattuso and Megan Quinn and Quinton Gattuso. She also leaves her 2 nephews Sammy (Beth) and Michael Bomarito. Vita was a devout Catholic and communicant of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation will be held July 19 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 11:00am on Friday July 20 with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff and her caregivers at Ave Maria Home for the care and love she received for the 9 years she lived there. Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Ave Maria Home.
